Learn Accessible Web Design
ScrimbaJune 2025 · 1.6 hrs · 28 lessons
A hands-on course on accessible web design: text contrast, alternative text, links and labels, semantic HTML, text sizes and heading structure, ARIA including live regions, accessible JavaScript, hiding content correctly and a skip-navigation link. Every topic is first explained as an “aside” and implemented immediately afterwards as a challenge in the editor; a two-part overall challenge closes the course.
Format
Interactive scrims with challenges
Contents & competencies
- Understanding web accessibility: who it affects and what makes a site unusable
- Colour and contrast: checking and correcting text contrast, never using colour as the only carrier of information
- Alternative text and meaningful links instead of “click here”
- Forms: associating labels correctly, grouping radio buttons sensibly
- Semantic HTML: real lists, a clean heading hierarchy, scalable text sizes
- Using ARIA deliberately — including live regions for dynamically loaded content
- Accessible JavaScript, hiding content from screen readers correctly, implementing a skip-navigation link
